Teacher Training

Get Into Teaching at Wyvern St Edmunds

Wyvern St Edmunds offers opportunities for people wishing to train as secondary teachers. We work with two teacher-training providers; Southampton University and United Teaching. Their courses provide graduates with the subject knowledge and pedagogical theory needed to become qualified teachers whilst WSE gives trainees the opportunity to work alongside a professional mentor to put theory into practice and develop the day-to-day teaching skills required for a successful career.

Southampton University

Is one of the top teacher-training centres in the country and offers the PGCE route into teaching with time spent on campus receiving face-to-face expert tuition and a gradual build up to independent teaching, with your mentor in the classroom throughout your training.

United Teaching

Offers School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT), which can suit trainees with more classroom experience. Training is generally remote and you are given more independence in the classroom sooner. Applicants can opt to work as a (paid) Cover Supervisor at a school for a year before starting their teacher training, which give you the chance to start honing your classroom skills before your training year
